Description

Crimping Tool (0.1-1.0 mm Capacity, 16-28 AWG) - Pololu 1928

This crimping tool can be used to crimp both male and female Tamiya connector crimp pins, mini Tamiya connector crimp pins, JST connector crimp pins, JR crimp pins, Futaba J crimp pins, and crimp pins for 0.1" housings onto 16-28 AWG wires to make custom cables. The tool offers ratcheting action for increased consistency and ease of use.
We also sell a cheaper, narrower crimping tool which can be used a different range of compatible crimping pins (0.25-1mm, 20-28 AWG).

Using the Crimping Tool:

  1. Start by stripping about 3mm (1/8") of insulation from the end of the wire. Slide the exposed wire into the crimp pin, ensuring that the stripped part is between the inner set of tabs on the crimp pin and the insulated wire is between the outer set of tabs.
  2. Place the crimp pin with wire inserted on the appropriate tooth of the tool's die, making sure that the insulated end is on the wider half of the tooth. The tabs should point toward the cavity on the other side of the die so that they are bent inwards and close around the wire when the tool is pressed shut.
  3. Finally, close the jaws of the tool slowly and completely until they release. A properly crimped pin will form one barrel around the wire conductors and another barrel for strain relief around the insulation.

Finished Crimp Inspection:

Once you've finished the crimping process see this document for tips on how to identify a correct crimp.

I've used cheaper tools in the past and regretted it. This one is great. The postman managed to lose the first shipment, but ProtoPIC sent a replacement as soon as they had stock. Thanks for outstanding service, chaps!

I bought it because I wanted to make custom cables to keep things nice and tidy. It did the trick. I bought the male and female crimp pins along with some housings, and now I go crimping mad on just about every project! Well worth the price and hopefully

Very simple to use with the Male/Female Crimp Pins for 0.1" Housings. I can now easily make my own wires to the length with the terminals I need. I can also terminate battery connectors for use on breadboards.
