Shift Register 8-Bit - DIP16 - 74HC595

Simple shift register IC. Clock in data and latch it to free up IO pins on your micro.
This shift register enables you to expand on the digital outputs available on your microcontroller. Each one of these 74HC595s can act like 8 more digital outputs, and for even more expandability, you can daisy chain them. In fact, by connecting 8 of them up next to each other, you could have control of 64 outputs.
But the way it works is a little confusing to think of at first, so we've provided a couple of links below to great tutorials.

    Works brilliantly and a diasy-chained pair of these has allowed me to drive a 4x7-segment display from my Arduino with just three pins.

    This was unfortunate Andrew, between your orders - we changed manufacturers of the device. They are both exactly the same device but they use different printing inks for the ic code. We would always send ic out form the same manufacturer if bought in the

    i was happy to get the ICs and amazed by their size. however i had to buy the ICS in two block of 2 becuase of funding issues. so what happened was i had some chips which were easy to read their print on them and the others differcult.
