Description

SparkFun SEN-00241 Infrared Emitters and Detectors Pair

Side-looking Infrared Emitters and IR Detectors. These simple devices operate at 940nm and work well for generic IR systems including remote control and touch-less object sensing. Using a simple ADC on any microcontroller will allow variable readings to be collected from the detector. The emitter is driven up to 50mA with a current limiting resistor as with any LED device. The detect is a NPN transistor that is biased by incoming IR light.
Datasheets:

  • IR Emitter (Yellow or Black dot) or the internal layout matches the third image above.
  • IR Detector (Red dot)

Applications:

Sold as a pair, with one Emitter and one Detector.

These units work very reliably and are very easy to use. I haven't tried the free sweets yet!

I'd found the IR Tx/Rx pair from an American company, but was much happier to find a UK based reseller.
The IR pair were just what I needed to mend my Roomba. Even with my ham-fisted soldering.
And to top it off the package came with a small bag of sweets(no idea why) and they were very tasty :D.
First class post cost more than the components, but it still works out good value.

Pretty good, though due to the design the IR does spread out so keep that in mind. Oh and keep a little note of which is the emitter and detector close by, found myself mixing them up often but that may just be me :P

I had to make an infra-red photo-interrupter for a tacho I'm building. This pair were made for each other, are small, very precise and work beautifully - very easy to build into a reliable and functional system. For very precise work, I rate these two as
