This Planetary gearbox kit by Tamiya is the first product in their “high efficiency” series. The gearbox features two 4:1 and 5:1 stages that you can combine in whatever fashion you require, there’s also nothing stopping you from combining two gearbox kits together to reach some absolutely massive ratios! Conveniently the output is always on the same axis as the motor shaft. The gear ratios are as follows, 4:1, 5:1, 16:1, 20:1, 25:1, 80:1, 100:1, and 400:1.
Included in the kit are low-voltage motors running on a low voltage of 3-6V and only drawing a couple of Amps. Top tip- Excessive stalling can cause motor overheating, we recommend using stall-detection sensors or just simply watch your project to ensure it doesn’t stall for more than a few moments at a single time!
This planetary gearbox has a 4mm diameter, round output shaft, which works with compatible wheels with Tamiya 4 mm, round shafts. Our 3 mm universal mounting hub also fits on the smaller threaded end of the shaft, although it is not specifically intended to work with this type of shaft (the hub’s set screw could damage the thread on the shaft).
