What is a Header Connector?
A header is a form of electrical connector. A male pin header consists of one or more rows of metal pins molded into a plastic base, often 2.54 mm (0.1 in) apart, though available in many spacings. Male pin headers are cost-effective due to their simplicity.
Stacking Header
Stacking headers are basically just larger, taller female headers. They come in handy when you want to be able to take your Feather and FeatherWing boards apart, or if you want to plug them into a solderless breadboard. They're great for prototyping, and sturdy enough for permanent use in most projects.
Proto-Pic have Stacking Header for Raspberry Pi which is so good. The female header part has extra spaces to make it, when placed on your Pi, a PCB will clear the Ethernet and USB jacks. The stacky pins part are also extra-long.
Break Away Female Headers
These units have very high-quality round pins to accept and retain male round pin headers much better. The headers can be cut to size with a pair of wire-cutters or using the Proto-PIC pin snapping tool! The headers spacing is standard .1".
