DC Motors
DC Motors
DC motor is defined as a class of electrical motors that convert direct current electrical energy into mechanical energy. From the above definition, we can conclude that any electric motor that is operated using direct current or DC is called a DC motor.
How do DC Motors work?
The above diagram shows the workings of a brushed electric motor with a two-pole rotor (armature) and permanent magnet stator. “N” and “S” designate polarities on the inside axis faces of the magnets; the outside faces have opposite polarities.
The + and – signs show where the DC current is applied to the commutator which supplies current to the armature coils
