What is a Capacitor?
A capacitor is similar to a tiny battery but works by storing energy electrostatically instead of chemically like a AA battery you might find in your TV remote. They are commonly used for various applications in electronic circuits. When power is applied to a capacitor, electrons will start to move away from one end of the component and towards the other. This will cause a negative charge to build up on one end and an equally sized positive charge will build up on the other end, storing energy. If you reverse the connection from the way it was charged, it will discharge its stored electrons. If you would like to find out more about how they work check out our blog post.
