RFID Sensors

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID Sensors) uses electromagnetic fields to automatically identify and track tags attached to objects. RFID systems consist of radio transponders, radio receivers, and radio transmitters. When an electromagnetic interrogation pulse is triggered by a nearby RFID reader device, the tag will transmit digital data back to the reader. This is often a number that can be used to track inventory goods, but it can be used for identifying objects, animals, security, or process control in an automation system.

There are two variants of RFID tags. Passive RFID tags are powered by energy from the RFID reader's interrogating radio waves. Active RFID tags are powered by a battery meaning that they can be read at a much greater range from the RFID reader.
