Motor Drivers and Controllers
Motor Drivers and Controllers are integrated circuits (IC) that allow you to control and power motors in your electronics project. Whether you’re working on a new robot or an RC car we’re sure to have a motor controller for you. This range of boards contains drivers suitable for a variety of motors and are compatible with many common microcontroller development platforms like Arduino and Raspberry Pi.
Why do we need motor drivers?
A decent DC motor will often require voltages in the range of 5-12V, many common microcontrollers which are commonly used to control electronics projects around the world run on lower voltages of 3.3V/5V. To properly control the motor a motor driver IC is required to interface between the microcontroller and the motor. It reads instructions sent from the microcontroller and then outputs a higher voltage to the motor to allow it to run effectively.
