The SparkFun ESP32 Thing Plus is the next iteration of the original ESP32 Thing, complete with all the features of the original ESP32 Thing you will be able to dive even deeper into Espressif IoT ideations! The ESP32 WROOM is a robust WiFi and Bluetooth MCU module which is effective in a huge variety of applications. The heart of this module is powered by the ESP32-D0WDQ6 chip, which is both scalable and adaptive by design. The Thing Plus is now Qwiic enabled and feather compatible, thanks to Sparkfun moving a few pins around for optimum accessibility!
Don’t be put off by the name, this isn’t a Shape-shifting alien from the Antarctic (Kurt Russell not included)! We believe this is the perfect starting point for all your Internet of Things projects, hence “Thing”. The Thing is programmable like a standard microcontroller, with the ability to do everything from posting data and turning on an LED! If like us your platform of choice is the Arduino IDE, the Thing can even be programmed though it by installing the ESP32 Arduino core.
The ESP32 Thing plus integrates a rich set of peripherals, ranging from capacitive touch sensors, Hall sensors, SD card interface, Ethernet, high-speed SPI, UART, I2S and I2C. Thanks to the onboard ESP32 WROOM module, the SparkFun Thing Plus features 16MB of flash memory, 520kB of internal SRAM, an integrated 802.11 BGN WiFi transceiver and dual-mode Bluetooth capabilities, and a JST connector to plug in a LiPo battery.
The SparkFun Qwiic Connect System is an ecosystem of I2C sensors, actuators, shields and cables that make prototyping faster and less prone to error. All Qwiic-enabled boards use a common 1mm pitch, 4-pin JST connector. This reduces the amount of required PCB space, and polarized connections mean you can’t hook it up wrong.
