The SparkFun SparkPunk Kit is a sound generator made to honor the Atari Punk Console. As opposed to recreating the Atari Punk, the SparkPunk is the re-imagining of a similar foundation. Starting with a dual 555 timer IC, then adding a second tone source, sub-octaves, and a bandpass filter. The sheer volume of tones you can produce with all of these knobs and switches means you will be joining Daft Punk in no time!
The SparkPunk is a very simple synthesizer, using the somewhat conventional arrangement of oscillators that feed a filter. All you need to know to play this sound generator is to press the button, operate the control knobs, listen to the results, and adjust your music to how you want it. The SparkPunk is intended for you to explore and have fun! Some people are drawn to mellow, soothing sounds, while others prefer clangorous tones, and that's fine, to each their own. With all of the controls, you should be able to explore both ends of the spectrum.
Lastly, the SparkPunk is highly customizable! Any knob with a 0.25" inner diameter, like our Chicken Head knobs,  can be attached to the tops of each potentiometer. External speaker wires can be soldered onto the board for a fixed audio output. Photocells can be added to control the kit without actually touching it. There are plenty more optional modifications that can be added and played with to your heart's content!
