It's time to start utilizing the superior magnetometer! What better way than to throw it onto an easy-to-use breakout board? The SparkFun MLX90393 Magnetometer Breakout is a triple-axis magnetic sensor board capable of sensing very small fields. All the while still behaving as one would expect during saturation in larger fields (like a nearby magnet). The MLX90393 breakout works well as a compass sensor however also as a non-contact controller, flow meter with magnetic impeller, or a linear actuator position sensor. Making it even easier to get your readings, all communication enacts exclusively via I2C, utilizing our handy Qwiic system. However, we still have broken out 0.1"-spaced pins in case you prefer to use a breadboard.
The MLX90393 features a resolution rate of 0.161µT with an operating voltage range of 2.2V to 3.6V at 100µA. This breakout is equipped with jumper pads on the back of the board. A set that allows you to change the I2C address as well as one that can put the breakout into SPI mode (if I2C isn't your cup of tea).

Board Pin Layout:

  • 3.3V: Power Supply Input Should be between 2.2V - 3.6V
  • GND: Ground Input 0V/common voltage
  • SDA: I2C Data Signal Bi-directional Bi-directional data line. Voltage should not exceed the power supply (e.g. 3.3V)
  • SCL/SCLK: I2C Clock Signal Input Master-controlled clock signal. Voltage should not exceed the power supply (e.g. 3.3V)
  • CS: Chip Select Input Chip Select pin, digital input. Tied high for I2C operation, cut trace jumper and tie low for SPI
  • INT: Interrupt Output Interrupt pin, active high, digital output. Also configurable as a data ready pin
  • TRIG: Reset Input/Output Trigger pin, active high, digital output. Also configurable as an interrupt pin
